Talking about European research centers for human language technologies, I’m going to mention the most relevant ones, which are the following: The Edinburgh Language Technology Group, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and the National Centre for Language Technology in Ireland.

THE EDINBURGH LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY GROUP
This research and development group has been working since 1990s in the domain of natural language engineering. The Edinburgh Language Technology Group is nowadays founded in the Institute for Communicating and Collaborative Systems of the Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. The LTG’s main focus is to build solutions that are practical, to solve problems in text processing. They have worked in all domains of great-volume text handling.

THE GERMAN RESEARCH CENTRE FOR ANTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (DFKI)
This second research centre is in the area of ground-breaking software technology based on Artificial Intelligence methods. Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) was founded in 1988 and nowadays is situated in Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken, Bremen and Berlin (Germany). Microsoft, SAP,BMW and DaimlerChrysler are companies which are included among the DFKI-shareholders. The German Research Centre directs contract research in virtually all areas of current Artificial Intelligence (AI). And also comprising image and pattern recognition, knowledge management, intelligent visualization and simulation, deduction and multi- agent systems… At this research center, known by the abbreviation of DFKI, there are presently more than 90 projects in progress. And to finish up talking about The German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, I’m going to name the directors of this centre: Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster and Dr. Walter G. Olthoff.

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY, IN IRELAND
Talking about the following centre, it’s crucial to take into account that the base of the National Centre for Language Technology is the School of Computing in Dublin City University. This centre follows out research in the fields of machine translation, natural language parsing, grammar induction, question answering, sentiment analysis… Moreover, the researchers are pulled out from the School of Computing, the School of Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies and finally the School of Electronic Engineering. And it’s also important to mention the affiliation that this centre has with the Centre for Next Generation Localisation.
